!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! where the middle row of seats is now. Put Öhlins coilovers and JP Racing brakes all the way ‘round with a custom built IRS in the back. Put a fuelcell in the front. Tint the back windows and put what fits of middle row seat back in over the new engine cover/firewall. Get a push pull shifter lever to work with the transmission that looks like the stock shifter. Stiffen the chassis with a lot of bracing. Build a roof scoop to feed the engine, but hide it in a Thule roof box. Put the stickiest tires possible on the stock wheels. Leave the rest of the exterior as is.

650S drivetrain is good, but I think I’d prefer the LFA engine/exhaust combo. A Volvo that sounds like an old-school F1 car? Yes!

That’d be cool.
Or, stuff it into a mini and make a crazy mid-engined beast that's not nearly as practical as the Volvo idea.

GENIUS!!!
If you can provide that engine, I can provide a janky 240 that already has a Thule roof rack AND the same factory rear facing jump seat! We could put the McLaren unit in the middle and keep the jump seat and still have a car that seats 4 people!!!

It’ll sound like a GT1 Le Mans car instead.

The gearbox would eliminate the jump seat, I’m afraid.

I would skip the Thule box on the roof, and just create air intakes where the back door windows are.

This is a terrible idea, and as such, I am all for it. Full send!

You might be able to push the seat aft a bit. Legroom would be cramped, but still.
Anyways, I’m looking at going a slightly more sedate route with my 240. Thinking B8444S swap, eventually.

What I would do is cheer you on so loudly that you feel obliged to put me in your will.
Or let me drive it.
Or both, but I assume I would wind up as fiery wreckage somewhere within the first 2 minutes of driving.

I researched trying to fit a B8444S in my MR2 (60 degree V8 should fit like a V6, right?) but realized Toyota vs Volvo in a single car was gonna be tough.
They sound so great though!

I know a guy that put the Yamaha motor from an XC90 in one, he used to go to C&C. it might be the first one on the left, I can’t remember if it’s tha t one or a later green one he has, he has those Ferrari moose badges in them.

You could but a turbo N issan VH in there and get like 69 % there while saving a boatload of money. Basically the same motor.

The thing is, it’s designed to fit in a space where I5s and I6s went, so length was less of an issue than width. The opposite bank of cylinders is offset an entire half-cylinder width. In otherwords, it’s a longboi (for a V8) compared to most V6s.
But yes, the sound is incredible, and Yamaha made them and they like revvy things, and so do I. I also feel like there’ s some untapped power potential in that engine, because they had to detune them so much in an attempt to not frag Volvo’s only trans mission choice.

Any racing series that goes bust because of the cost technological warfare is immediately awesome to me.
I was hoping Le Mans hypercars would bring back those GT1 type cars but it seems like the category imploded even before we got to see the expensive tech war.

I’m on board. Sounds like a Gatebil project, the kind of thing to emerge from a Swedish shed to slay tires after a winter’s work.

That’s the motor I’m talking about! So cool!!!
Despite the fact that it’s really a Yamaha motor, Volvo used their own ID code for it, in this case B8444S (Benzine (gasoline), 8 cyl, 4.4L, 4 valve/cyl, Suction (non-turbo)). Apparently not a lot of people have pulled that swap off. I may need you to put me in touch with your guy when the time comes, I’m sure I’ll have questions.

The only way I could find him is if I saw him at a C&C, not happening these days! His is in front, not the insane mid mount you suggested haha. I think it was in the green wagon, the ones with the grille like this:
In any case it’s a tight fit, I remember looking at it and there wasn’t much room, ala 300ZX.

Oh, I’d be mounting mine in the front, too. Converting a car like that to mid mount requires way more equipment/facilities/money than I have at my disposal.
And I’m in no hurry. I have a lot of jank to fix on my 240 before I’m ready to start getting into a motor swap. Actually, I still need to get it to my house.
That is a cool looking car though, I love the round headlight front end and the flat rally hood! Mine has the round headlights, but the later stepped hood, which the more I look at the more I like.
